BLOG

Writing a blog can be fucking hard. A MAJOR pain at times. Writer’s block has happened to me so many times times when I sit down at the laptop to write a blog. Even now I am thinking, ‘where the f do I start?’

Well let me make that blog writing slightly easier with my ‘How To: Writing A Blog In Seven Easy Steps.

DRUMROLL PLEASEEEEE FOR MY BEST HOW TO – WRITING A BLOG TIP

The best and most important tip that I have about writing a blog is to write about what is going to help your audience. If you are struggling to get started with your blog post, take a step back and think about how you can best serve your audience. Consider their pain points, their questions, desires and their interests, and use this information to guide your blog post.

Stop thinking about your blog as a task on your to do list that you need to check off and start viewing as it as a way to really help your clients and future clients

WITH THAT IN MIND HERE IS A BRIEF RUNDOWN ON MY HOW TO OF WRITING A BLOG.

1. Choose your topic

When choosing your blog topic, don’t just write what you feel like. Write what your audience is interested in and is already discussing.

‘But Aoife, how do I know what my audience is interested in?’

Use these below tips to find out what your audience is searching for online. The topics you need to write about are in forums, communities and search engines already. They need an expert like you to write a blog post on what they want to find out!

Where to find ideas for writing blogs

  • Reddit
  • Answer the public / Others Want To Know on Google Search
  • Forums
  • Repurpose your social media content
  • Ask Your Audience on socials

2. Research Your Chosen Topic. Are People Actually Searching for it?

Use a keyword research tool like ‘uber suggest’ or ‘google ads’ to choose the keywords that are not difficult to rank for. Try to find keywords where the competition is low and ideally has a high search volume. Low competition and high search volume is our golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

With this in mind, you will not be writing blog posts that nobody is searching for.

3. Write an outline of your blog

Drafting a rough outline of your blog can help your organise your thoughts and structure your blog post appropriately.

You may want to:

  • Brainstorm ideas
  • Brainstorm sub topics
  • Order subtopics
  • Add examples
  • Brainstorm introduction and conclusion
  • Brainstorm hooks and headlines
  • Write down questions that your reader may also have and elaborate

4. Draft the main points of your blog post

Once you have your outline done, then you can get into the nitty gritty of your blog post. Here you can begin to elaborate further on your ideas in the outline of your blog.

Some more tips for writing the main points of your blog are:

  • Use clear headings throughout the post
  • Don’t ramble
  • Include case studies if you can
  • Use external links to websites you are citing – this is incredible for your SEO too. DO NOT FORGET! Check out hub spots blog post on external linking best practices.
  • Use internal links to link to other blog posts you have written or another page on your website. Ensure that these are relevant. Check out Moz’z blog post on internal links and why they are so important.
  • Have a clear introduction and conclusion

5. Editing Stage

Now it is time to perfect and refine your blog. Editing is super important to ensure you aren’t rambling and are getting straight to the point.

6.Calls to Action

Always, always, ALWAYS ensure your blogs have a call to action at the end of your article. Your reader needs someone to tell them what to do next. Whether that is to look at your packages, to book on a call or to send you an email to seek further advice.

Don’t forget to have fun with your CTAS.

E.g.
‘Get inspired’
‘Let’s plan out date’
‘Don’t be shy, share this post’
‘Ready to level up? Join …’

7. Tips for improving your blogs SEO

Use external links to articles / blog posts / websites that you refer to.

Linking to high-quality external sources in your blog posts can improve your website’s credibility and reputation in the eyes of search engines, which can positively impact your search engine rankings and visibility.

  • Use internal links to pages on your website.

Using internal links in your blog posts can improve your website’s SEO by helping search engines understand your content structure and hierarchy, discovering new pages on your website, and distributing link value to important pages. This can give a definite boost to your SEO.

  • Don’t keyword stuff

Google is clever. Like, really clever. Never over use keywords ie ‘keyword stuff’. Google will get annoyed.
Check out this article by the SEO journal all about keyword stuffing and about what people use to do with keywords!

  • Make use of Alt tags on your images

Alt tags stands for ‘alternative text’ and are used to describe images for people who are visually impaired. Ensure you are descriptive and that you use keywords. Only use keywords if you can. If it doesn’t fit, don’t use it.

All in all the BEST thing you can do on your blog is to provide helpful content for your audience. Not only will you become a lead authority in your industry, but you will build trust with your gang.
