‘What does a website need?’

A question I get asked ALOT! Don’t get too stressed out if you don’t know what a website needs. It can take time to figure out what content to include on your website. Here are my top tips for what your website needs!

1. Home/Landing Page

Your home/landing page is the main event. It must include little snippets about you and your business. It’s like your elevator pitch. You have 10 seconds to show off yourself and your business. Short, snappy and to the point. People will not read a lengthy essay introducing yourself. Make sure to include all other elements of your website on the home page. Have a section for your:

  • about
  • services
  • mission
  • contact details

2. About Page

Potential clients want to know about you. They want to know your why. Write about how you got into your service, or what inspired you to start your business venture. List your experience. This is not the time to be humble!

Questions to think about…

  • What is your mission?
  • How do you want to help your clients?
  • How can you make their life better?
  • What problems can you solve?

3.Services Page

Have a clear description of the services/products you offer. Make it concise and easy to read. Bullet points are ideal.

Include a pricing page if necessary. Some people choose to hide this page. Ultimately, it is up to you and what you think your client will react best to.

4.Contact Page

You would be surprised at how many websites do not have contact details displayed appropriately. Dedicate an entire page to your contact details.  Bonus points if you include a booking system like calendly. Clients can then book a discovery call with you as soon as possible with minimal effort on your and their behalf.

5.Privacy Policy Page

A privacy policy page shows a potential client that you comply with privacy laws. It lets users know if and how you use their data. Have this clearly displayed on the footer (bottom section) of your website.

6. Blog Page

A blog page is an amazing way to showcase you expertise to a potential client. With a blog you can create posts about your services and share helpful content answering client questions, showcasing your opinions etc.

If optimised for SEO, blogging drives traffic to your website, promotes yourself, your service and your products.

Blogs can be repurposed for your social media content. Super handy!

Don’t forget to add your call to action at the bottom of your blog post to entice your readers to get in contact.

7. CTAS – Calls to Action

Calls to actions are so important on a website. They signal to a user what they need to do on a website. It gives them a hint on what to do next. Studies have shown that adding a CTA button increased conversion rates by a crazy 83%!

8. Professional Photos

Professional photos are a must! Photography really makes a website, so please do not use poor quality phone images. Professional photos are completely worth the investment and will really bring your website to lift. If you can’t invest in professional images at this time you can find stock images from the below sites:

9. Great Branding

Branding is also incredibly important. You need to be clear on your audience and brand. Your brand story is the narrative you want your brand to convey to its chosen audience. It includes your colour scheme, logo, typography. These need to be nailed down before you begin your website. I can help set you up with a brand and logo designer and offer my opinion in your choices.

Please feel free to shoot me a message if you need any more advice on creating content for your site. It is definitely a little daunting, but once you get into it you will be flying!
